US urges Russian permissive approach towards the attacks against Syria

Netanyhu & Putin in Paris

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Ambassador James Jeffrey, Washington’s Syria envoy stated last week that: “Russia has been permissive, in consultation with the Israelis, about Israeli strikes against Iranian targets inside Syria. We certainly hope that that permissive approach will continue”.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In order to continue protecting its Syrian border efficiently, it is crucial for Israel to be in an agreement with both superpowers as exemplified by Netanyahu’s meeting with Putin on November 11th, 2018. Undoubtedly, Jeffery’s statement that “Israel has an EXISTENTIAL interest in blocking Iran from deploying long-range power projection systems … inside Syria”, sums up Israel’s interests in southwest Syria. It is important to stress, that this existential threat exists as long as Iran continues to meddle in any part of Syria, not only the southwestern region, adjacent to the Israeli border.
