Abducting IDF soldiers has always been a top goal for Hezbollah. The success of this type of operation greatly strengthens Hezbollah’s status in the eyes of many Lebanese. Today is the 20th anniversary of the abduction of 3 IDF soldiers on Mount Dov.
The soldiers were killed in a Hezbollah ambush, their bodies abducted and returned in January 2004 in a prisoner exchange deal. In 2006, Hezbollah carried out a similar operation near Zarit, which caused the start of the Second Lebanon War.
Sadly, Hezbollah will never give up on efforts for a third kidnapping attempt and it is only a matter of time.
Luckily, Hezbollah knows what the price would be, and refrained from doing so in the past 14 years.
