In the Middle East, violence between Palestinians and Israelis continued to escalate on Tuesday evening.
Sarit Zehavi from the Israeli Alma Research and Education Center sees the activities of Hamas as a reaction to the cancellation of the elections in the Palestinian territories by Mahmoud Abbas. She told the Berliner Zeitung that the “Israeli police could have handled the riots on the Temple Mount better”. But the real problem is a dispute among Palestinian organizations: “Hamas wants to raise awareness before the elections and its position with the Palestinians.” Zehavi believes the conflict will last for a few days, but does not expect a full outbreak of sustained armed conflict .
