The Earthquake in Southern Turkey (February 2023)

A powerful earthquake occurred in southern Turkey and northwestern Syria. Its intensity is about 7.8 on the Richter scale. It was also well felt in Israel, Jordan, and Lebanon.

Many dead and injured, and heavy damage to property in Aleppo, Idlib, Hama, Afrin, and Latakia. Hundreds have been killed, and hundreds are wounded in Syria alone. Estimates are of thousands of victims.

The earthquake in northwestern Syria did not distinguish between the areas under the control of the Assad regime (purple color on the map) and the areas under the control of the opposition (green color on the map). Hundreds of dead and injured people living there (locals, displaced persons, and refugees) and the numbers are only rising.
