An Attack in Southern Syria Near Hader (24 April, 2023)

According to local indications, on April 24 (around 1am) a Syrian army post was attacked in Qors Al-Nafl, located east of the village of Hadar in the northern Golan Heights. We are aware of Hezbollah’s presence there. After the attack, leaflets were dropped in which the Syrian army was warned against cooperating with Hezbollah, as well as photos of a meeting between senior officials in the Syrian intelligence and Hezbollah’s intelligence array. It should be noted that this outpost was attacked several times in the past, the last of which occurred in May 2022.

The two officials whose photo appears in the warning leaflet are Tarek Maher, the head of Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters in Syria, and brigadier general Samer al-Dana, born in 1968 in Damascus, who is described as the head of intelligence in Syria (known to us as the head of field intelligence in the Syrian Army).

In our assessment, this attack was carried out as a message to Hezbollah and #Syria on the background of this meeting, which apparently took place at the outpost itself that overlooks Israel. The cooperation between the Syrian army in southern Syria and Hezbollah continues to be close.
