Weekend Update May 16-19, 2024, 02:00 pm – Northern Arena

  1. In the past 72 hours Hezbollah claimed responsibility for 39 attacks against Israel using high-trajectory fire (including Grad and Burkan rockets), anti-tank missiles, suicide UAVs, and a UAV armed with S5 rockets.
  2. In addition, there were 23 events of UAV infiltration into Israeli territory in the Upper Galilee, Weaten Galilee, Mevo’ot HaHermon region, and the city of Kiryat Shmona for which no responsibility was claimed.
  3. On Thursday (May 16), Hezbollah claimed responsibility for launching a UAV armed with S5 rockets toward the Metula area, injuring 3 soldiers. A detailed report will be published separately. Attached is a photo of the UAV taken from a video published by Hezbollah’s combat media unit.
  4. Also on Thursday, Hezbollah launched suicide UAVs toward Industrial security plants in the Kiryat Shmona area. According to Hezbollah, these attacks were a response to the IDF attacks in the Beqaa earlier that day.
  5. Also on Thursday, Hezbollah launched Burkan heavy rockets toward the area of the city of Shlomi. According to Hezbollah, the target was a military base. Attached is a video taken from social networks of the rocket falling near the city (credit: unknown).
  6. On Friday (May 17), Hezbollah launched suicide UAVs toward the Western Galilee. According to Hezbollah, the target was a military base, and the attack was carried out as a response to the killing of Muhammad Hassan Ali Fares.
  7. Also on Friday, a parallel attack against two targets was carried out by Israel south of Sidon, the Zaharani area: The first, several structures in an agricultural area, used by Hezbollah’s aerial defense unit (A detailed report will be published separately. The second was a vehicle in the nearby village of Najaria where, according to local reports, an active member of the Hezbollah air unit was killed. The two strikes may be related.
  8. In response to these attacks, Hezbollah launched about 75 Grad rockets toward the Golan Heights, dozens of which were intercepted. According to Hezbollah, the targets were military bases.   9. Also, on Friday a vehicle was attacked from the air near Al Masnaa central border crossing between Lebanon and Syria (Majdal Anjar area), killing Sharabil Ali al-Sayed (Abu Amru), a senior operative in Jama’ah al-Islamiyya. Al Sayed was involved in terrorist activity against Israel in the eastern sector of southern Lebanon.
  10. In response, yesterday (18.05) Hezbollah launched high-trajectory fire to Rosh HaNikra in Western Galilee.
  11. In the past 72 hours, the IDF struck several Hezbollah targets in Lebanon including military compounds, infrastructures, observation posts and rocket launchers around Qana, Ayta ash Shab, Meiss El Jabal, Kfarkela, Houla, Naqoura, Yaroun, Deir Seryan, Kfarhamam, Odaisseh, Kounine, Khiam, Aitaroun, and Ramyeh.
