Daily Update, September 26, 2024 – 16:00 – Northern Arena

  • Over the past 24 hours, there have been ten attacks against Israel. Hezbollah claimed responsibility for eight of the attacks.
  • In the southern arena, the Islamic resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for targeting a site in Eilat using UAVs. One UAV was intercepted, and another hit a site in Eilat, injuring one civilian.
  • In recent days, Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for direct attacks on several communities and cities in northern Israel. In the last 24 hours alone, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for three attacks involving launching of dozens of rockets to the city of Kiryat Motzkin, home to about 50,000 civilians. Hezbollah no longer claims to target only military sites or respond to IDF strikes and is directly targeting civilians in Israel.
  • In recent days, Hezbollah has rephrased its announcements regarding attacks against Israel. The new phrasing frames the attacks as they are in support of the Palestinians but also in defense of Lebanon and its citizens. Hezbollah is trying to present a narrative in which it is the defending party, rather than the aggressor, despite being the one who initiated the war on Israel on October 8, 2023, and conducting daily attacks since then. This narrative serves to strengthen its legitimacy for war among its supporters in Lebanon, while also aiming to portray Israel as the aggressor that started this conflict.
  • Yesterday (September 26), IDF airstrikes targeted 280 Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, including rocket launchers, weapon storage facilities, military infrastructure, and 60 intelligence headquarters, which contained intelligence-gathering equipment, command centers, and other infrastructure.
  • This morning (September 26), Hezbollah launched approximately 45 rockets toward the cities of Kiryat Motzkin and Acre. A video documenting these launches is attached (credit: unknown).  Additionally, Hezbollah launched 10 heavy Falaq rockets to the city of Kiryat Shmona. Hezbollah’s official announcements, regarding these attacks, claimed to attack the cities of Kiryat Motzkin and Kiryat Shmona.
  • Today (September 26), the IDF targeted about 75 Hezbollah sites in the Beqaa Valley and southern Lebanon, including weapon storage facilities, rocket launchers, buildings, and military infrastructure. Additionally, other airstrikes on the Syrian-Lebanese border targeted infrastructures used by Hezbollah to smuggle weapons from Syria to Lebanon.
  • A short while ago (September 26), a targeted airstrike was carried out in Beirut aimed at the commander of Hezbollah’s air unit. At this stage, there are no further details.
  • Attached is a video of an airstrike in southern Lebanon of a house used by Hezbollah to hide weapons. A rocket launched due to the attack, along with secondary explosions of the rockets stored inside are visible. Hezbollah stores weapons in civilian homes and uses Lebanese citizens as human shields.
  • Additionally, a video and photo of the damage caused by Hezbollah’s fire to a goat pen in a Bedouin community in northern Israel and a residential building are attached (credit: unknown).
