Hamas operative Hasan Akasha was Killed in Syria

Hasan Akasha, a Hamas operative from the Syrian village of Beit Jinn, was killed on January 8, the same day as the commander of Hezbollah’s Radwan unit was killed in Khirbet Selm, southern Lebanon.

Akasha was responsible for launching the Hamas rockets into Israel from Syria. These kinds of launches have occurred multiple times since the start of the Gaza Strip conflict.

Hamas members in Syria and possibly those in Lebanon who crossed over to Syria carried out rocket attacks under Akasha’s orders. Keep in mind that since the start of the Syrian civil war, Hamas has not conducted operations inside Syria due to the expulsion of its agents and the closure of its resources because Hamas backed the opposition against the government.

Hezbollah and the Iranians have spearheaded reconciliation in recent years. With the support of Iran and Hezbollah, Hamas resumed its armed operations against Israel from Syria following the outbreak of war in Gaza. On September 21, 2023, Ali Akasha, Hasan’s brother, was slain. In addition to being an Islamic Jihad operative, he was involved in terrorist acts that Iran was directing. Apparently, it runs in the family.
