On 17 November 2025, an official Syrian government convoy was filmed traveling north from the village of Aabdyn towards Jamlah and reportedly had Russian officials accompanying them. Under the Assad regime, southern Syria had a large deployment of Russian “military police” forces who were forced to withdraw following the takeover of Ahmed Al Sharaa’s forces in Damascus. The presence of a Russian delegation touring their former area of operations is a clear signal of intent to engage with the new Syrian government and possibly return to the Syrian side of the border with Israel. Additionally, according to several unverified reports, Turkish officials were also present in the convoy. We do not know whether this is accurate or not. If true, this would mark the first known instance of a Turkish presence on Syrian soil in very close proximity to the Israeli border.
