Hezbollah’s Human Shield Map

Hezbollah’s Human Shield Map shows examples of Hezbollah’s use of civilians and civilian infrastructure as a human shield for their military purposes.

In the past few months, Alma Research Department gathered evidence that clearly proves Hezbollah’s human shield tactic and its use of distinctly civilian sites for military purposes. We relied on open-source information, primarily IDF publications regarding the weapons found inside villages during the ground maneuver (October–November 2024), but also on publications within Lebanon, such as secondary explosions of munitions in Hezbollah’s warehouses that were struck by the IDF; structures that were struck, where missiles and ammunition were visible in photographs of the damage; or footage released by Hezbollah itself documenting launches from within a school, for example.
We placed all of these on an interactive map, using a general location within each village rather than a precise point. Ultimately, this resulted in dozens of sites spread across dozens of villages, primarily in southern Lebanon, with conclusive evidence of Hezbollah’s use of Lebanese civilians as human shields. Actually, there were many more such cases (likely several thousand).
We chose to publish only what was clearly identifiable from the visual material as weapons concealed within the civilian sphere, and only cases in which we knew which village the photo or video was taken.
Moreover, the IDF published a great deal of additional information regarding weapons found in open areas or in locations whose exact whereabouts were not sufficiently clear. Those were not included in the project.
In our work on the map, we added to the images and videos information regarding the type of weaponry that was found, and in some cases, we also included more detailed geographic information about the location.

* For this map, we used only the general location.
