Air Strike on Palestinian Islamic Jihad Headquarters in Damascus – March 13, 2025

Over the past few years, the PIJ (Palestinian Islamic Jihad) established its main headquarters in Damascus, which also served as the residence of the PIJ leader, Ziyad Nakhalah, and the head of its military wing (“Saraya al-Quds”), Akram al-Ajouri. In light of the war’s developments and the fall of the Assad regime, their current location is unknown, and it is possible that they are in Iran. The PIJ is known for its very close ties with Iran and Hezbollah, and during the war, it operated in close cooperation with Hezbollah. The PIJ’s operations department sent PIJ operatives to Lebanon to carry out terrorist activities from Lebanese territory against Israel under Hezbollah’s auspices. Before and during the war, the PIJ, with Iranian funding, recruited both Palestinians and local Syrians to conduct terrorist activities against Israel from Syrian territory as well. The PIJ continues to attempt to plan and execute terrorist activities against Israel from Syrian soil, and it does not appear that the new regime in Damascus is preventing this. On March 13, Israel attacked one of its headquarters in northwest Damascus.
