On April 2, Israel attacked three sites used by the Syrian military from the air. In the Damascus area—Barzeh, according to various reports, a surface-to-air missile battery was likely targeted (it had been stationed there since the days of the Assad regime to protect the Damascus area in general, and apparently the Jamraya-Barzeh area in particular, where the headquarters and main offices of the CERS center and Institute 5200, which was the scientific center of CERS, as well as a training school for scientists, researchers, and engineers, were located). In addition, the military airfields in Hama and T4 (east of Homs) were attacked. At the airfields, runways, military aircraft, fuel depots, and radars were hit. This was an attack whose primary goal was to continue denying key capabilities that pose a potential threat to Israel. According to unverified reports, whose reliability is unclear, three Turkish engineers were killed in the T4 strike. One of the airfields where Turkey is interested in establishing a military presence, in coordination with the new Syrian regime, is T4.
