What is the extent of Hezbollah’s influence within the Lebanese army?
On 18 December 2019, a meeting took place in the office of Lebanon’s army commander, General Joseph Aoun, together with Hezbollah security representatives and Shi’ite Amal party envoys in attendance.
In the meeting, the current protests in Lebanon were discussed and it was mutually agreed to take decisive steps, including intensifying military activity aimed at preventing the protesters from blocking roads.
Hezbollah, out of its own immediate interest, cast its full weight on the Lebanese military, demanding for the swift suppressing of the protests at all costs, even at the expense of weakening the “army-people-resistance” equation for this purpose…
