The IDF struck a centrifuge production site in Tehran last night (June 18). In recent years, #Iran has upgraded its centrifuge array to more advanced models (IR-2m, IR-4, IR-6), which enable it to increase the scope and pace of uranium enrichment and reduce its breakout time – the amount of time needed to produce enough weapons grade material for a nuclear weapon. Additionally, the use of more advanced centrifuges allows Iran to enrich uranium to weapons-grade levels at smaller sites, which are therefore harder to detect. The 2015 nuclear agreement allowed Iran to operate only 5,060 basic-model centrifuges for uranium enrichment in Natanz. Iran violated the agreement by producing advanced centrifuges at sites that were not under IAEA supervision. It is estimated that Iran had about 15,000 centrifuges operating at Iran’s biggest uranium enrichment plant at Natanz. According to IAEA reports all were badly damaged or destroyed by last week’s Israeli attack.
