On June 13, 2025, Gholam Ali Rashid, head of Iran’s Coordination Headquarters – Khatam al-Anbiya, was eliminated. On June 16, his successor, Ali Shadmani, who had been appointed to the position just over the previous weekend, was also eliminated. Prior to Rashid’s elimination, Shadmani had served as deputy commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Emergency Headquarters and as chief of the Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
The Coordination Headquarters – Khatam al-Anbiya is the body responsible for planning and operational coordination among Iran’s armed forces and for their operational deployment. Until 2016, it was part of the General Command of the Armed Forces, but following structural changes, it became an independent body in charge of the operational aspects of the armed forces. Coordination between the various forces is conducted through regional and thematic commands, which report to the main headquarters. For example, in each area of operations, there is a regional command that works with the IRGC and another that coordinates with the army.
Under the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters, there are also research, development, procurement bodies, industrial facilities, and universities. Attached is a special report we published in March 2024, which includes, among other details, an overview of the command and control structure of the Iranian armed forces.
