Palestinian Refugee Camps in Lebanon: “Disarmament”

In the past week, the Lebanese Army, through its second intervention battalion, in collaboration with internal security forces and the Guidance Directorate, began confiscating weapons belonging to the Fatah movement from several Palestinian refugee camps in the Beirut and Tyre areas. The weapons seizure was accompanied by a well-publicized media campaign. So far, we have identified around 10 small trucks loaded with various types of weapons, including rifles, machine guns, grenades, mortar shells, anti-tank mines, and RPGs. The weapons were taken to Lebanese Army bases. This is indeed a precedent-setting move. However, in fact, the number of weapons collected so far is marginal compared to the reality that “every house in the camps has weapons” of all types. Additionally, the army’s enforcement capabilities in these camps are limited, and there are also significant quantities of weapons held by Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Salafi organizations, criminal elements, and arms smugglers, who are not part of the Palestinian disarmament agreement.

  2. Dear Tal,
A superficial fig leaf of enforcement will leave Israel exposed to another attack from the North. ALL of the terrorist invasive varieties must be weeded out of Lebanon and the entire earth, leaving neither root nor branch. Removal is the only viable solution. To be healthy, cancers must be totally removed. Taking a rocket today only to have it replaced with a ballistic missile tomorrow is to put it mildly: “BAD POLICY”. The terrorists must be gone to secure peace. BE NOT DECIEVED.
