On February 12, the chairman of the joint Iran-Syrian Chamber of Commerce, Keyvan Kashefi, announced the opening of a maritime corridor for the supply of goods to the Assad regime, from the Bandar Abbas port in Iran to Latakia. Kashfi added that according to the agreement, cargo ships will transport the goods from Iran to Syria in an orderly manner once a month and that the first shipment will be sent to the port of Latakia on March 10.
Due to the difficult economic situation, it was decided in April to establish a coordination mechanism between Russia, Syria, and Iran to secure the supply of oil, wheat, and other products from Iran to Syrian ports.
The goal is to break the “American and European siege” carried out through sanctions on Syria. Russian battleships will accompany Iranian ships from the Suez Canal in the Mediterranean to the Syrian territorial waters and the Syrian ports of Banias, Latakia, and Tartus.
