Will Rudolph Haykal Be Appointed as The New Commander of The Lebanese Army?

Rudolph Haykal currently serves as the commander of the Operations Division in the Lebanese army. It is possible that he will be confirmed for the role of commander of the Lebanese army on March 13, 2025.

In his current role, he is responsible for the planning and oversight of all military operations, while coordinating between the various army units. This is considered one of the most important and influential positions in the Lebanese army.

The names of additional candidates who have been mentioned as options for selection are the logistics commander johnny Akel and the military police commander Tony Shadid.

Haykal is considered the leading candidate to be selected for the role of commander of the Lebanese army, following Joseph Aoun’s election to the presidency on January 9, 2025.

Throughout his career, Haykal has held a series of senior positions in the army:

• Commander of the First Brigade in the Lebanese army

• Commander of the South Litani Sector – a role he held for over three years

• Commander of the Operations Division in the Lebanese army
