Wissam Hasan al-Tawil (Haj Jawad), who served, according to several reports, as the field commander of the Radwan unit, was killed on Jan. 8 in the town of Khirbet Selm in southern Lebanon while driving his car. Al-Tawil served in the past as the commander of the Radwan Unit in Aleppo and even had the privilege of personally hosting and accompanying senior officials of the Quds Force and Hezbollah who arrived in Syria. This is a very significant elimination that sends a clear message. At this stage, it is not clear what the impact will be on the operational competence of the Radwan unit, if any. Many attended the funeral in his town on January 9.
Wissam Hassan Al Tawil was married with four children. He was born on September 20, 1975. He joined Hezbollah in 1989. He participated in many operations against the IDF in the security zone in Lebanon, and in 1999 he was wounded in the neck. Tawil then participated in the kidnapping operation on July 12, 2006. He served as commander of the Radwan unit in Aleppo and stayed in Syria for an extended period of time.
