Weekly Review: Hezbollah Ceasefire Violations and IDF Airstrikes in Southern Lebanon (April 16–23, 2026)

Over the past few days, Hezbollah has renewed its attacks against Israel and carried out several assaults targeting IDF forces operating in southern Lebanon. The series of events between April 20 and 23, 2026, indicates a renewed escalation in the sector, involving violations of ceasefire understandings and attempts to create direct friction with IDF forces. On April 20, Hezbollah detonated an explosive device in the Taybeh area targeting IDF forces; no casualties occurred in this incident. The following day, April 21, Hezbollah conducted high-trajectory fire and launched a UAV near Kfar Giladi in Israeli territory; all launches were intercepted. April 22 saw continued offensive activity by Hezbollah, including high-trajectory fire toward IDF forces operating in Bayyada, UAV launches toward the Qantara area, and attempts to hit IDF UAVs near Mansouri, which Hezbollah claimed resulted in the interception of four UAVs. On April 23, Hezbollah continued attempts to strike IDF forces through UAV and anti-tank attacks against IDF troops operating in Lebanese territory. These incidents add to repeated attempts by Hezbollah operatives to infiltrate or approach the front line, violating ceasefire agreements. In recent days, the IDF has targeted operatives who crossed the front line and approached IDF forces in several locations. On April 20, a rocket launcher, loaded and ready for launch, was struck in the Qalaouiyah area (outside the Yellow Zone). On April 22, a Hezbollah militant operating at a rocket launch site in the Sujud area was eliminated, and in another strike in Al-Tiri, two Hezbollah operatives were killed. These strikes are part of ongoing IDF operations against Hezbollah terror infrastructure in the Yellow Zone, aimed at reducing the threat to northern communities. The graphic illustrates that the main focal point of friction is concentrated in the “Yellow Line” area—a zone with IDF presence serving as the front line. Most Hezbollah attacks and attempts to hit IDF forces occur within this area, in an effort to destabilize the defense line and create sustained friction with the forces. However, there was also a single Hezbollah attack toward Israeli territory, indicating that the threat is not limited to the Lebanese arena. Conversely, IDF strikes focus on specific targets—rocket launchers, operatives, and terror infrastructure—as part of a targeted effort to thwart threats and protect northern communities.
