Another Weapons Shipment to Lebanon Thwarted by Syrian Security Forces

Another foiling of a weapons smuggling attempt to Lebanon via Syria (July 26). Syrian security forces in the Al-Nabk area (north of Damascus) thwarted another attempt to smuggle weapons intended for Lebanon. The smuggling attempt included RPG-29 anti-tank weapons (in green tubes/canisters) and 107 mm rockets for high-trajectory fire. The Al-Nabk area serves as a central departure point for smuggling and is located on the M5 highway connecting Homs and Damascus. The mountainous terrain of the Qalamoun Mountains, west of Al-Nabk toward the Lebanese border, enables concealed movement and complicates the monitoring and control of all illegal crossings in the area.
