On March 16, small-arms fire from Lebanon hit a vehicle in the Israeli community of Avivim. The shooting is believed to have occurred during a funeral of a Hezbollah terrorist in the village of Maroun al-Ras. In response, the IDF targeted several Hezbollah positions in the village of Aainata in southern Lebanon.
The Israeli vehicle was hit while parked at the Avivim Winery, located less than three kilometers from Maroun al-Ras. The same winery sustained multiple direct hits during the war and was completely burned down.
Despite attempts to portray the incident as stray fire, it is far from incidental. This incident underscores the presence of armed Hezbollah terrorists operating in broad daylight in villages near the border. This constitutes a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement and highlights the inefficacy of both the Lebanese Armed Forces and UNIFIL in enforcing it.
