Iranian Special Operations Commander Eliminated

During the night between April 5–6, Yazdan Mir (Yazdan Mir), also known as Asghar Bakeri, was eliminated – commander of Unit 840 (also known by the nickname “Sardar Bakeri,” derived from his rank “Sardar,” an IRGC officer rank used as an honorific title for brigadier general and above). Unit 840, the special operations unit of the Quds Force, is responsible for promoting and directing terrorist activity against Israelis and Jews inside Israel, along its borders, and worldwide, through terrorist cells remotely directed by it. The unit operates branches divided geographically, and additionally maintains independent headquarters and intelligence divisions, as well as a division dealing with opposition elements. It is known that Unit 840 has carried out terrorist activity, among other places, in the Netherlands, Turkey, the United States, Azerbaijan, and Colombia. Unit 840, under the command of Bakeri, who was appointed in 2019, and his deputy Mohammad Reza Ansari (also known as Mostafa Ansari), has been highly active against Israel from Lebanon, Syria, and Judea and Samaria. Ansari was specifically responsible for activity in Syria. In August and November 2020, Unit 840 was responsible for planting explosive devices near the border fence in the al-Malaka area in southern Syria, carried out by local terrorist cells operated by it. Even after the fall of the Assad regime, Unit 840 remained highly active in southern Syria. It located, recruited, and trained operatives from the local population for the purpose of planning and carrying out attacks against IDF forces in the buffer zone. Some of the activity in Syria was carried out with the assistance of Lebanese unit operatives. During 2025, several such operatives were eliminated by Israel in Lebanon. In addition, Unit 840 is also involved in smuggling funds and advanced weaponry and destabilizing the area of Judea and Samaria (such as explosive devices, mortars, rockets, and anti-tank weapons), including through the activation of Palestinians in refugee camps in Lebanon who assist it.
