Lebanese Government’s 2025 Disarmament Plan: Challenges and Hezbollah’s Resistance

On August 5, 2025, the Lebanese government convened under the leadership of the President to discuss the issue of the exclusivity of weapons in the hands of the state. It was decided to task the army with preparing a plan to concentrate all weapons in the hands of authorized authorities only, based on the Taif Agreement, Resolution 1701, and previous governmental declarations. The plan will be submitted to the government by August 31 for discussion and approval, and its implementation will be carried out by the end of 2025. During the session, revised proposals from the United States regarding the regulation of a ceasefire were also discussed, but due to disagreements and reservations, it was decided to postpone further discussion to August 7. The publications, declarations, plans, and alleged actions regarding disarmament by the Lebanese authorities can be misleading and create a false impression. There is an inherent gap with reality. Hezbollah will not cooperate. The core of Hezbollah and its mission is armed resistance. The ideology and motivation for ‘resistance’ and for the destruction of Israel are relentless and uncompromising. Even today, the Iranians are strategically committed to the rehabilitation of Hezbollah. As Nasrallah once said: ‘They will take our souls before they take our weapons… which are the symbol of honor and pride…’ And as was written in Al-Akhbar (the primary mouthpiece of Hezbollah) on November 20, 2024: ‘The current confrontation is just another round in the war for the destruction of Israel. Hezbollah will rebuild its power and grow stronger again.’ One plausible scenario that could unfold is internal escalation and even civil war (which Hezbollah can and may want to initiate).

  1. Dear Tal,
The entire Hezbollah history toward Israel is: lies deceptions, manipulations, corruption, destabilization, hatred, hostility, contempt, violence and death. This is who they are, and they remain defiant today: therefore, they MUST be defeated and eradicated by force. They choose darkness and death. It is their defined policy, and we must no longer deny this fact.
