The primary objective of the war in Iran was to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. During the war, the four major nuclear facilities in Iran—Natanz, Fordow, Isfahan, and Arak—were attacked. In addition, dozens of sites related to the nuclear program, including centrifuge production facilities, were also struck. The elimination of 12 nuclear scientists dealt a major blow to Iran’s knowledge base and its ability to restore the nuclear program. As a result of the attacks, Iran’s capacity to enrich uranium to 90% and to produce a nuclear weapon core was impaired and possibly neutralized, thereby extending the nuclear breakout time significantly.
