Iran and Russia are trying to acquire assets in Syria and strengthen their presence in the Syrian southwest, adjacent to the Israeli border. One of the consequences of the civil war in Syria is the deployment of Hezbollah in Syria – a challenge to the IDF and to Israeli security.
As part of its efforts to counter this challenge – the IDF has established a new intelligence unit in the Golan Heights. For the first time, the IDF will have a separate unit in charge of gathering and analyzing all the information in one area.
The new unit uses surveillance devices, High Definition cameras and an array of sensors monitoring movements on the other side of the border.
