East of Homs – Syrian Goverment Forces Find Cache of Artillery Shells and Mortars. August 2025

The Iranians and Hezbollah are trying, and in our assessment will even accelerate their attempts, to renew and adapt to the new reality the activity of the land corridor on Syrian soil. In the desert area east of the city of Homs, a munitions cache was located by the Syrian Internal Security Forces, which included, among other things, artillery shells and mortar bombs. Highway No. 3, which connects the Palmyra area in the east with Homs in the west, crosses the area where the munitions were found. It is unclear whether this is ammunition that was abandoned at the time by Assad’s army, or whether it is a cache that was brought to this area in order to be collected and smuggled into Lebanon.

According to the Syrian Ministry of Interior’s statement on August 19, this was ammunition intended for smuggling and it was seized after tracking and searches of the vehicle that brought it to this area. One of the main routes of the Iranian weapons corridor inside Syria was based on Highway No. 32, which ran westward from Palmyra and connected to Highway No. 3 up to the city of Homs, and from there westward in the direction of al-Qusayr / Hawsh al-Sayyid Ali, or southward along the border with Lebanon (the Beqaa area).

  1. Dear Tal,
Despite some progress toward the obstruction of ordinance going to Hezbollah, the muslim brotherhood is just a different branch of terrorism. It too must be designated as such, and laws codified and enforced to prohibit and eradicate all forms of terrorism both in Syria and Turkey. Otherwise Israel must be the arm of the enforcement and execution of justice. Failure is not an option.
