Palestinians Refugee Camps in Lebanon: “Disarmament”

The “disarmament of Palestinians” initiative continues in Lebanon, as does the public campaign, but the results on the ground are less impressive. On September 13, the Lebanese army announced that it had completed the fourth stage of the program to collect weapons from the Palestinian refugee camps, during which three truckloads of weapons were collected from the al-Beddawi camp in the north and five additional truckloads from the Ain al-Hilweh camp in the south. Among the weapons handed over were anti-aircraft weapons, medium weapons, mines, and various types of ammunition.

The Ain al-Hilweh refugee camp is considered the largest Palestinian camp in Lebanon in terms of population and, accordingly, in terms of the amount of weapons stored there. As of 2025, its population is estimated at between 70,000 and 85,000. Within the camp operate various armed organizations, including Fatah, Hamas, Usbat al-Ansar, and the Jund al-Sham Brigades, making it a sensitive hub filled with weapons. Nevertheless, all that was removed from it this week amounted to just five relatively small trucks, a negligible quantity compared to the size of the camp and the scale of the weapons held there.

The al-Beddawi refugee camp currently has between 16,000 and 20,000 residents. From this camp, three trucks were removed. This week’s disarmament effort amounted to only eight trucks in total. The process appears to be advancing slowly and in a very limited manner, and as of now is focused mainly on symbolic achievements that serve public relations but fall far short of genuine, thorough, and comprehensive disarmament.

  1. Dear Tal,
I agree that the fake appearance of a token “disarming” of jihaddist camps is nauseating to anyone aware of the October 7 invasion.
Nothing short of a total occupation with verified disarming and defeating of gihaddist terrorists will resolve this problem. Failure is not an option.
