On the evening of November 14, two Grad rockets (107 mm) were launched from the Kafr Sousa area in southern Damascus toward the al-Mazzeh neighborhood in western Damascus. The rockets struck “Area 86” and the “Asadi” hospital in al-Mazzeh. The distance from the launch site to the impact points was approximately three to three and a half kilometers.
On the western and northern borders of the al-Mazzeh neighborhood are located the two presidential Palaces. The impacts occurred at a relatively short distance from the secondary presidential palace. The “Asadi” hospital, hit by one of the rockets, is located approximately 130 meters from the secondary presidential palace. “Area 86,” where the second rocket struck, is about 600 meters from this palace. Both impact sites were at a relatively greater distance (over one kilometer) from the Main presidential palace.
It should be noted that the area west of al-Mazzeh is known to contain several military bases. At this stage, no organization has claimed responsibility for the rocket fire. Is ISIS behind the attack? Following al-Shara’s visit to the United States (November 10), ISIS publicly labeled him a traitor and a servant of the West and “the Jews.” ISIS called on its disappointed supporters to abandon al-Shara and join ISIS. The risk level for al-Shara and his regime is rising. See our article on the subject.
