Last week, the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint George in the Marjaayoun area of southern Lebanon was struck. Footage of the launch indicates that the rockets that hit the church were fired by Hezbollah from the Sohmor area in the southern Beqaa Valley. Despite this, the organization attempted to place responsibility for the incident on Israel.
The incident once again illustrates the price Lebanese civilians pay as a result of Hezbollah’s military activities.
The damage to a Christian religious site is not merely an operational incident; it highlights the pattern of conduct of a terrorist organization that operates from populated areas and directly endangers all segments of Lebanon’s population—regardless of religion, sect, or community.
This case joins a series of incidents demonstrating that Hezbollah does not act to protect Lebanese civilians. Rather, it uses Lebanese territory and its population as a shield for its military operations.
